MAKESENSE Lebanon Fundraiser/Business Developper


At MakeSense, we have been building since 2011 a team of talented people who are passionate about social entrepreneurship and citizen engagement and wish to use their skills to solve the most pressing challenges of our society. `

Who we are ?
With MakeSense, having a positive impact on society becomes a collective adventure accessible to all ! MakeSense turns the talents, skills and connections of thousands of individuals around the world into unique superpowers to help Social Entrepreneurs. It’s happening thanks to an active community of 3000 volunteers in 110 cities around the world spotting entrepreneurs and mobilizing on their challenges. : online through a website and offline through the organization of challenge-solving workshops called Hold-Ups. Within 7 years, MakeSense has mobilised more than 30,000 citizens to help 3,000 social entrepreneurs all over the globe !
Our concrete expertises :
-INSPIRE : we inspire citizens about social entrepreneurship and exciting solutions to the most pressing issues
-ENGAGE : we engage citizens to take action and support multiple projects using their skills, creativity and networks. We train them to be agents of change and take part in building the solutions
-ACCELERATE : we support social entrepreneurs solving their challenges and accelerate their projects and impact
-COLLABORATE : as we need everyone to overcome the challenges, we make all local actors collaborate to generate a collective impact

And in Lebanon?
We have been active on social entrepreneurship in Lebanon for more than 2 years now, involving more than 2000 participants in more than 200 events and partnering with amazing supporters of this ecosystem like Berytech and others such as Loyac, AUB, NDU, Arabnet, Aiesec etc. We are currently active in 5 regions (Beirut, Jounieh, Tripoli, Baadba/Aley, Shouf, Saida).
We plan to develop new impactful activities, including starting an acceleration program for social entrepreneurs in Beirut.
The new talent will join the existing Community Development team in Lebanon to bring new business opportunities to help makesense develop the ecosystem of social entrepreneurship in Lebanon. The business developer will be asked to work often with social entrepreneurs, NGOs, and corporates.

We have been funded by a European foundation to kickstart our activities.
To ensure long-term viability of our activities, we need to reach new funders.

What you will do

You role will be to co-create & conduct Makesense Lebanon's funding strategy, meaning identify, prospect, solicitate and steward corporates, institutional and individuals donors

More concretely, your mission will consist of :

  • Define and manage fundraising and partnerships strategy
  • Build a pipeline of potential funders and partners and prioritize it
  • Manage the whole fundraising process : contact targets and manage meetings, understand their needs and ambitions and make propositions accordingly, negotiate and validate
  • Ensure meaningful relationship and reporting with existing funder and new ones
  • Organize events and meetings to ensure Makesense's positioning and notoriety toward potential partners
  • Take part in the implementation of some field projects when relevant (key to deeply understand the value generated by our activities)
  • Other missions needed to ensure the development of MakeSense Lebanon that arise along the journey (take part in creating the local legal structure, handling bank account, relationship with accountant, etc)

Before starting your mission, you will benefit from a 3 weeks training in France.
You will work hand in hand with the local team based in Lebanon and the MENA referent based in France.
You will also be in contact with the fundraising / business developper global team based in 4 countries.

What we are looking for

Fundraising experience & expertise :

  • You have a fundraising experience and/or entrepreneurial experience, with proven track record of signing major (50K$+) grants or contracts
  • You have knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, particularly as they relate to identification, cultivation, and stewardship of foundation prospects.
  • You have skills in turning concepts into donor/prospects-driven strategies and propositions
  • You are very organised and master formalizing presentations to make your message clear and sharp
  • You have already made oral presentations and talks in front of audiences

Other skills :

  • You are convinced that citizen engagement is a way to leverage social impact to solve the most pressing social and environmental challenges that we face
  • You have outstanding organizational skills and the ability to balance priorities
  • You are familiar with online tools and do not mind working online with a distributed team
  • You're autonomous and can easily report and synchronize with others
  • You don’t mind working with flexible hours. Lots of events might happen in the evenings or weekends
  • You are a team player and are good at working in a collective, strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • You are rigorous and can easily work in complex environments
